The recordings by the Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester, directed by Kurt Sanderling, are described by GramophoneвЂ™s Andrew Achenbach as full of вЂstrength, integrity and fierce intelligenceвЂ™, and are combined with performances by the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Vassily Sinaisky. 4 in A minor enters a dark, austere, and occasionally terrifying sonic landscape.
